We built a 2-car garage behind our home and I noticed that the ceiling height would allow for a small loft area. After determining we could run a water line from the main house and tap into the sewer line in the alley, we built a very small studio apartment with a kitchenette and single bathroom. This was a successful Airbnb rental that generated over $2500.00 a month in income. The cost for the apartment was approximately $50,000.00 and it was paid for in less than two years. Once we decided to sell the house we had a spreadsheet of all of the generated income from Airbnb and it help increase the value of home substantially. This was where the idea of adu5280 started. It was a basic layout but it worked well.
